The former number one pound for pound boxer Mayweather Jr. and his father, Mayweather Sr. have many things in common. They like to hug the limelight. They want fights with high earning potential. They like to run when the going gets tough.
On the Run
After Manny Pacquiao demolished Ricky Hatton in two brutal rounds, Floyd Sr. came late in the post-fight conference. Hatton's Assistant Trainer has to answer reporters in lieu of his absence.
Before Pacquiao-Hatton fight happened, Floyd Jr. announced his return against Juan Manuel Marquez. Freddie Roach, when questioned by Cooney on the Floyd Marquez fight, commented that "all he ( Floyd Jr.) had to do was wait one day, and he could have had Pacquiao. I don't think he wants Pacquiao. He is scared of Manny.
Floyd Jr has been popularly known in avoiding fighters like in their prime like Margarito, Shane Mosely, and Miguel Cotto. The choice to fight a smaller man in Marquez illustrates this ducking ability at its best.
Hugging the limelight
Senior Mayweather, like his son, loves to hug the limelight. Badmouthing Freddie Roach and degrading the so called " Amateurish " skills of Manny, showing off his biceps in the Paquiao-Hatton HBO series are some of his effective ways of attracting media attention.
Junior Money May tries to beat his dad's antic. Announcing his return on the day Pacquiao is fighting is quite impressive. Flinging money in conferences is another way. Floyd Jr. really misses the limelight.
Money Mayweathers
Let us always remember that the old and young Mayweather had a fallout because of money matters. And Money seems to be ruling both men.
Senior Floyd was not able to train De La Hoya two years ago because the loud mouthed trainer is asking a lot of money.
The major stumbling reason why young Mayweather don't want to fight great fighters like Paul Williams is because he wants to be paid more. He basically want fights that he can earn a lot of money.
If he gets past Marquez, there is a great chance that the Pacquiao- Mayweather fight will fail because of money problems
