WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is taking every precaution for his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on July 18. Marquez is hoping the swine flu epidemic is not going to complicate his training camp. He usually trains in Mexico for his big fights, but plans to leave the country to train elsewhere if the flu strain continues to spread.
Marquez is expected to move up in weight by at least eight pounds to 143 to make the fight. There will be a special set of training routines for this particular fight.
"I'm going to have special foods, exercises, different weight session to put on four pounds of pure strength and keep myself strong and fast. We will work with a team that includes nutritionists, a weight trainer," Marquez told ESTO.
Marquez, more so than any other fighter, causes a lot of problems for Manny Pacquiao. He says the win over Mayweather would open the door for a November trilogy showdown with Pacquiao.
"If I defeat Mayweather, I would be ready to move forward with a Manny Pacquiao fight in November," Marquez said.
