Pacman sees Floyd win

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --World pound for pound boxing king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao predicts a Floyd Mayweather win over Mexican boxing icon Juan Manuel Marquez in their scheduled fight on July 17 in Las Vegas.

“Mayweather will win against Juan Manuel Marquez because of his speed,” Pacquiao said in an exclusive interview during the 60th birthday bash of his mother, Dionesia, at the Phela Grande Convention Center here.

Pacman said that the speed of Mayweather would overwhelm Marquez.

“Mayweather is a power-slugger and an aggressive boxer while Marquez is a counter-puncher. That would put the Mexican at a disadvantage taking much of the beatings from his American opponent,” Pacquiao said.

Marquez is the current title holder of the lightweight division in both the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

The Mayweather-Marquez fight on July 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA is a non-title fight with the boxers agreeing to a weight limit of 143 to144 pounds.

Pacman, who won the junior welterweight title of the International Boxing Organization from Briton Ricky “Hitman” Hatton, said Mayweather and Marquez have almost the same power punches.

Boxing aficionados are looking forward to Pacquiao fighting Mayweather to settle who better deserves the title of the best pound-for-pound boxer.

“This will be a very exciting fight between two great boxers that eventually would settle who will be the real pound for pound king of the world,” said Undersecretary Luis Singson.

Of the politicians and movie celebrities invited to the party of Mommy Dionesia, only Singson graced the affair in a jampacked and tightly secured Phela Grande Convention Center owned by local businessman Pat Amadeo.

Pacquiao’s coach and trainer Freddie Roach earlier predicted that his ward would emerge victorious over Mayweather in a fight.

Roach said it took Mayweather nine rounds to defeat Hatton while Pacquiao only needed two rounds.

“Manny Pacman crushed Hatton with ease and grace seconds before the second round ended, while Floyd had Hatton reached the 9th round before a win. What can you say more?” Roach said in an interview.

Pacquiao would not predict a win against Mayweather but said that he would train hard and work out a game plan to crush Mayweather if their fight would push through.
